Analysis of Soil Erodibility Factor for Hydrologic Processes in Kereke Watershed, North Central Nigeria

نویسندگان

چکیده

: Soil erodibility factor plays essential role in determining how susceptible soil is to hydrological processes such as detachment and removal by rainfall runoff that could influence erosion sediment entrainment flooding an area. This paper therefore determined the k-value of Kereke watershed with purpose assessing its susceptibility processes. Data was collected on some properties texture, structure, organic matter content, carbon porosity, bulk density, moisture content k-value. The systematic sampling procedure used select thirty-two settlements which served catchment areas for data collection; from samples were analysis. Tables graph present data, percentages depict variations set. Results study shows have high percent sand particles (71.6%), moderate amount clay (15.7%), silt(12.7%), (0.6%), (1.1%), density (1.4 gcm-3 ), porosity (45.2%), (14.0%) low 0.018. area considered be low, soils are moderately erodible. probably accounts intensity channels entrained sediments observed It recommended management practices should encouraged farmers especially planting cover crops, shifting cultivation fallowing system. will allow nutrients gain improved limit capacity good area.

Spatial variability of soil properties and soil erodibility in the Alqueva reservoir watershed

The aim of this work is to investigate how the spatial variability of soil properties and soil erodibility (K factor) were affected by the changes in land use allowed by irrigation with water from a reservoir in a semiarid area. To this end, three areas representative of different land uses (agroforestry grassland, lucerne crop and olive orchard) were studied within a 900 ha farm. The interrela...

Determination of the linear and non-linear relationships between soil erodibility factor and effective parameters on it in a mountainous watershed with severe soil erosion

Soil erodibility factor is a criterion of soil particle resistance to detachment, transport, and effects of erosivity factors (rain drop, runoff, and wind) during the soil loss processes. In this study, non-linear support vector machines (SVMs) method was used for investigating the effects of some topography, soil physical and mechanical properties on soil erodibility in a part of Northern Karo...
